Foods to Avoid if you have Gallbladder Stones

If you have been diagnosed with gallstones, there are certain food items advised by Urologist In Chandigarh that you need to keep away from so that your condition does not worsen further. Following is a list  of 5 foods to avoid if you have gallbladder stones.

  • Refined and processed foods: These include food items made out of all-purpose flour (maida), packaged snacks such as bhujia and papad etc. Fast food such as noodles, burgers, donuts and pies also need to be eliminated from your diet if you have gallbladder stones.

  • Saturated fats: If you have gallbladder stones, do not consume animal-based fats such as ghee, butter, cream and vanaspati. Other food items that increase the cholesterol levels and size of gallbladder stones include red meat, chicken (thigh and leg), heavy gravies and peanut butter etc.

  • Food high in oxalates: Any food item that is high in oxalates accelerates cholesterol synthesis which eventually leads to an increase in the size of gallstones. Some examples are cocoa butter, coffee, strong tea, dark chocolate, meat gravies and peanut butter etc.

  • Added salt: Reduce your intake of white salt in general if you suffer from the problem of gallbladder stones. This also includes pink salt and rock salt as well. Foods high in sodium such as packaged chutneys, papads, pickles, and chips should be completely stopped.

  • Strong-flavored masalas: These include packaged masalas like garam masala, chaat masala, rajma masala and paneer masala etc. Strong masalas increase the bile salt in your body which is directly linked to enlargement of gallstones.
