Biography
Dr. Brahmjyot is a highly accomplished Consultant Pathologist at Healing Hospital, Chandigarh with 20+ years of transformative experience in diagnostic pathology, histopathology, cytopathology, and laboratory medicine. She brings exceptional expertise in tissue diagnosis, cytological examination, and comprehensive laboratory investigations, combined with extensive academic leadership and teaching experience.
Dr. Brahmjyot graduated with her MBBS from Government Medical College, Patiala in 1999, where she developed a strong foundation in clinical medicine and laboratory sciences. She pursued her postgraduate specialization earning her MD in Pathology from Government Medical College, Amritsar in 2005, gaining comprehensive training in all aspects of pathology including histopathology, cytopathology, hematopathology, clinical pathology, microbiology, and biochemistry. After completing her MD, she gained wide experience in her field while working at the reputed medical college MM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MMIMSR), where she was involved in both diagnostic pathology services and teaching medical students. Her distinguished academic career includes serving as Professor and Head of Department (HOD) of Pathology at BRS Dental College, Barwala from 2006 to 2019, where she was responsible for establishing and leading the pathology department, training postgraduate and undergraduate students, conducting research, and providing diagnostic pathology services.
Her 15 years of academic leadership as Professor and HOD reflect her deep understanding of pathological sciences, commitment to medical education, and expertise in building and managing pathology departments. This extensive teaching experience has honed her diagnostic skills and kept her updated with the latest advances in pathology through continuous academic engagement.
Besides clinical pathology and routine laboratory investigations, Dr. Brahmjyot specializes in histopathology (microscopic examination of tissue biopsies for disease diagnosis—surgical specimens, needle biopsies, endoscopic biopsies) and cytopathology (microscopic examination of cells from body fluids and fine needle aspirations—FNAC, Pap smears, body fluid cytology). Her special areas of interest include gynaecological pathology (cervical pathology, endometrial pathology, ovarian pathology, Pap smear interpretation, cervical biopsy diagnosis) and thyroid pathology (thyroid FNAC interpretation, thyroid nodule diagnosis, differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid lesions, thyroid biopsy reporting).
Dr. Brahmjyot specializes in comprehensive pathology services including cytopathology (FNAC – Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology for thyroid, breast, lymph nodes, salivary glands, soft tissue masses; exfoliative cytology including Pap smears for cervical cancer screening; body fluid cytology for pleural, peritoneal, pericardial fluids; special interest in breast cytology for diagnosing breast lumps and masses), hematopathology (complete blood count interpretation, peripheral blood smear examination, bone marrow examination, diagnosis of anemias, leukemias, lymphomas, and other blood disorders), histopathology (surgical pathology for all organs—gastrointestinal biopsies, liver biopsies, kidney biopsies, skin biopsies, breast biopsies, gynecological specimens, endoscopic biopsies; frozen section diagnosis for intraoperative consultations; immunohistochemistry for cancer diagnosis and classification; special stains for infectious diseases and metabolic disorders), clinical pathology (routine hematology, coagulation studies, urine analysis, body fluid analysis), and biochemistry and serology (clinical chemistry tests, hormone assays, tumor markers, infectious disease serology, immunology tests).
Her expertise in gynaecological pathology makes her particularly skilled in cervical cancer screening and diagnosis, endometrial pathology for abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian tumor diagnosis, and interpreting complex gynecological specimens. Her specialization in thyroid pathology enables accurate diagnosis of thyroid nodules, differentiation between benign and malignant thyroid lesions, and guiding clinical management of thyroid diseases through precise cytological and histopathological examination.
Her special interest in breast cytology provides expertise in diagnosing breast lumps through FNAC, differentiating benign breast lesions from breast cancer, and providing rapid diagnosis for breast pathology, which is crucial for early cancer detection and treatment planning.
Dr. Brahmjyot has made academic contributions with a scientific publication titled “Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome presenting as Acute Flaccid Quadriplegia” co-authored with Dr. Singhvi JP and Dr. Ganguli Anirban, published in ANS 2010. She has actively participated in numerous scientific conferences and continuing medical education programs including CME in Pathology at Command Hospital Chandimandir (2003), North West Chapter of Indian Society of Hematology & Transfusion Medicine at PGI Chandigarh (2004), International CME in Hematology & Transfusion Medicine at PGI Chandigarh (2004), Conference of North West Chapter of Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists at IGMC Shimla, 10th International CME on Surgical Pathology & Cytology at DMC Ludhiana (2005), IAPM Conference at PGI Chandigarh (2009), and IMA Conferences under PMC (2018, 2019), demonstrating her commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with advances in pathology.
She is a member of prestigious pathology organizations including Indian Academy of Cytology, PGI Chandigarh—the premier organization for cytopathologists in India, and Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh, actively participating in pathology education and advancing diagnostic pathology standards.
According to Dr. Brahmjyot, “Pathology is the cornerstone of medical diagnosis—accurate pathological examination provides definitive diagnosis that guides treatment decisions, saves lives through early cancer detection, and ensures optimal patient outcomes.” She is technically very sound and believes in ethical practice with meticulous, evidence-based pathological examination and reporting. She makes sure that her clinical colleagues and patients receive accurate, timely, and comprehensive pathology reports with clear diagnoses and appropriate recommendations, and goes the extra mile in correlating pathological findings with clinical information, providing consultative support to clinicians, and ensuring diagnostic accuracy through quality control and continuous professional development.
